چکیده
This chapter is an introduction to the basic concepts, constructions, and results concerning locales. Locales (frames) are the object of study of the so called pointfree topology. They sufficiently resemble the lattices of open sets of topological spaces to allow the treatment of many topological questions. One motivation for the theory of locales is building topology on the intuition of “places of non-trivial extent” rather than on points. Not the only one; hence it is not surprising that the theory has developed beyond the purely geometric scope. Still, we can think of a locale as of a kind of space, more general than the classical one, allowing us to see topological phenomena in a new perspective. Other aspects are, for instance, connections with domain theory [53, 52], continuous lattices [5, 31], logic [65, 20] and topos theory [42, 20].

A note on semi-regular locales
Semi-regular locales are extensions of the classical semiregular spaces. We investigate the conditions such that semi-regularization is a functor. We also investigate the conditions such that semi-regularization is a reflection or coreflection.
متن کاملLocales are Not Pointless
The Kripke-Joyal semantics is used to interpret the fragment of intuitionistic logic containing ^;! and 8 in the category of locales. An axiomatic theory is developed that can be interpreted soundly in two ways, using either lower or upper powerlocales, so that pairs of separate results can be proved as single formal theorems. Openness and properness of maps between locales are characterized by...
متن کاملLinear Structures on Locales
We define a notion of morphism for quotient vector bundles that yields both a category QVBun and a contravariant global sections functor C : QVBun → Vect whose restriction to trivial vector bundles with fiber F coincides with the contravariant functor Top → Vect of F -valued continuous functions. Based on this we obtain a linear extension of the adjunction between the categories of topological ...
متن کاملInterpretation of Locales in Isabelle: Managing Dependencies between Locales
Locales are the theory development modules of the Isabelle proof assistant. Interpretation is a powerful technique of theorem reuse which facilitates their automatic transport to other contexts. This paper is concerned with the interpretation of locales in the context of other locales. Our main concern is to make interpretation an effective tool in an interactive proof environment. Interpretati...
متن کاملTutorial to Locales and Locale Interpretation
Locales are Isabelle’s mechanism to deal with parametric theories. We present typical examples of locale specifications, along with interpretations between locales to change their hierarchic dependencies and interpretations to reuse locales in theory contexts and proofs. This tutorial is intended for locale novices; familiarity with Isabelle and Isar is presumed.
